DONATIONS OF PICTURES AND ARTEFACTS

Do you own a picture or artefact which could be added to the collections at Penlee House? Many of the things you see at Penlee House have come as gifts, whether by owners in their lifetime or as bequests and are highly valued. If you are thinking of supporting the Gallery and Museum in this way, here is information to help you,

  • If you have a work of art or an artefact that you would like to donate or bequeath, please contact the Director or Curator of Penlee House, who are keen to talk with you. They will advise whether the work is appropriate to the Penlee House collection or whether it may be better placed elsewhere. The Penlee House Collections Development policy tells you more about what Penlee House is looking for. It’s important to establish that the item fits within the scope of the collections and can be properly accommodated.
  • If you intend to donate a work of art during your lifetime, you may be able to gain tax benefits from the donation under the Cultural Gifts Scheme. The Director or Curator can advise on who you should contact to take advantage of this scheme.
  • Your donation of an object or work of art should be made directly to Penlee House Gallery & Museum, and not to the Friends of Penlee House. The Friends do not have storage facilities or insurance cover for such donations.
